The first thing you want to do in your bankruptcy action is retain a qualified Houston bankruptcy attorney that can help you through the entire process. As soon as your bankruptcy has been filed from this point on the bankruptcy courts through your bankruptcy trustee will deal with your creditors.
They will no longer be able to contact you either by telephone or any other correspondence. If your wages have been garnished then this will be put on hold. Any lawsuits that are in action will be treated the same. This doesn’t mean that this hold is permanent, as creditors can sometimes apply to the courts to continue with their actions if they are secured creditors.
You will not be making payments directly to your unsecured creditors at this point. The bankruptcy court requires you to fill out a list of all of the creditors that you have. Once they have this list they will be contacting your creditors advising them of your bankruptcy action. This is the first stage of relief that you are going to get from your bankruptcy process.
